Nutella

Nutella is an Italian brand of sweetened cocoa and hazelnut spread. The brand is owned by Ferrero, based out of the town of Alba in Northwestern Italy. Other popular brands from Ferrero include Kinder Surprise, Kinder Joy, and Kinder Chocolate. Once just a small bakery in a small town, both Ferrero and their brand Nutella now has global recognition. Nutellas was introduced first in 1964.

The main ingredients in Nutella are sugar and palm oil. There is also hazelnut, cocoa powder, and skimmed milk. However, Ferrero changes the ingredients for each country where Nutella is sold. In the UK and the US for instance, Nutella contains soy products. In recent years, the company has changed its recipe. Now, there is a higher percentage of skimmed milk powder and sugar in Nutella.

Dessert is complete with these nutella brownies, which combine two parts of my favorite dessert. Simple to make and certain to please your family or friends.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup of light brown sugar

  • 1/3 cup 1/3 of unsalted butter, at room temperature

  • 2 teaspoons 2 of vanilla extract

  • 2 eggs

  • ½ teaspoon of salt

  • 1-1/4 cups of Nutella

  • ¾ cup of chocolate chips and sea salt, optional

  • ¾ cup of all-purpose flour

Directions

  • Preheat your oven to 177 C or 350 F.
  • Place parchment or aluminium foil at the sides and bottom of your baking pan. Some of it should hang on the sides so that you can lift the brownies easily from the pan.
  • Set aside.
  • Beat the butter in a bowl on high speed for a minute. Use a stand or handheld mixer. It should be creamy and smooth.
  • Add your brown sugar.
  • Beat again for 1 to 2 minutes on high speed.
  • Scrape the sides of your bowl.
  • Now, add the vanilla extract and eggs, while your mixer is running on low speed.
  • Beat on medium speed.
  • Beat the salt and a cup of Nutella.
  • Mix well until it has become fluffy and smooth.
  • Scrape down the sides once again.
  • Add the flour while the mixer is on low speed. Combine well.
  • Fold the chocolate chips in if you are using them.
  • Now, pour your batter into the baking pan.
  • Add the remaining Nutella on top.
  • Swirl the Nutella into your batter with a knife.
  • Sprinkle sea salt on top.
  • Bake your brownies for 35 minutes.
  • Let your brownies to cool on the wire rack.
  • Lift the foil from your pan once they are completely cool.
  • Cut into squares.
  • You can add more sea salt on top if you want.

Notes

  • You can make your brownie with more fudge greatness and denser by reducing the amount of flour. As a general rule, it will be more cake like if you add more flour.
  • Each oven is different. So keep checking to make sure that you don’t overbake. You want them to be moist when you insert a toothpick into the brownies.

      Tips & Tricks

Baking – It will take you slightly less time to bake if you use a 9-inch pan. Also, the flavor of Nutella will become a bit muted when you bake. Add 1 tablespoon of Frangelico to your toasted hazelnuts or the batter to punch it up. This will make your brownies crunchier.

Chocolate Chips – This recipe includes chocolate chips. However, they are optional. The chips will add some texture, though. You will love these chocolate chips if you like nuts in brownies.

Sugar – This Nutella Brownie recipe has only half a cup of light brown sugar as one of the ingredients. This level of sweetness is perfect for most people. However, you can reduce the sugar if you want, but remember, you may not get the same texture.

Salt – Have you made brownies or chocolate chip cookies with salt? Just a little bit of flaky sea salt will go a long way in making it more flavorful. It adds a nice depth. You may, however, omit it if you are skeptical.

      Freezing the Nutella Brownie

Your fudgy Nutella brownie can be frozen, just like you can freeze breads, cookies, and scones. But first, make sure that it is cooled to room temperature. Store it in an airtight container. You can then freeze for up to 2 to 3 months.

When you plan to eat them again, simply take out from your freezer and thaw in your fridge overnight. Bring it up to room temperature before eating the brownie.

What Else Can You Make With Nutella

The Nutella spread from Ferrero is so yummy that you can have it directly from the jar. The spread can also be used to make many other recipes like,
