Some dips are ideal for any situation, including this delicious million dollar dip. Make this dip at home quick and easy for your game day.

Ingredients

  • 6 6 bacon slices

  • ½ cup of almond slivers

  • ½ cup of green onions

  • 1 1 ½ cups of mayonnaise

  • 8 ounces 8 sharp cheddar cheese

  • 1 pinch 1 cayenne pepper

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  • Place a large skillet over a medium heat, and warm it gently. When the metal is hot, toss the almond slivers into the pan, and allow them to warm. Use a wooden spoon to stir the slivers so that they don’t scorch, and turn the heat down if they start to stick. You don’t need to oil the pan.
  • Cook the almonds for around five minutes, until they have turned a light gold color. Tip them out of the pan and place them in a bowl. Set this aside for later.
  • Place the skillet back over a medium heat and add your bacon slices so that they can fry gently. Keep an eye on them and flip them occasionally so that they don’t burn. Again, if the pan gets too hot, turn the heat down.
  • Flip the bacon occasionally until it is crispy and golden. Cook it for up to ten minutes (depending on how crispy you like it) and then remove it from the pan.
  • Drain the bacon and place it on a plate to cool down.
  • Use scissors to cut the bacon into fine chunks. These are going to be stirred through the dip, so you want them to be small. Place them in a bowl and set them aside too.
  • Shred your cheddar cheese (unless you have bought ready-shredded) and chop your green onions into fine slices.
  • Take out a large mixing bowl and add cheddar cheese and mayonnaise. Stir the green onions, cayenne pepper, bacon pieces, and almond slivers into the mayonnaise and cheese, and mix well. You want the ingredients to be thoroughly combined so that there are no pockets or lumps.
  • Transfer the dip to a pretty bowl and cover the bowl with plastic wrap to reduce the flow of oxygen. Put the dip in the fridge and chill it for a minimum of one hour.
  • Serve chilled with carrot sticks, cucumber, chips, or crackers.

Tips & Tricks

Now you’ve got the basics, let’s look at how you can make your million dollar dip a true show-stopper.

  • You can make your dip easier to scoop by chopping your almond slivers before you brown them.
  • Keep your dip covered when you aren’t using it, so that the surface layer doesn’t dry out. Plastic wrap or an airtight container will work well.
  • Make sure you use a sharp knife for slicing the onions. This will give you smaller, crispier slices. A blunt knife will give you larger, rougher ones.
  • Consider trying other kinds of cheese; you don’t have to limit yourself to just cheddar. If you have other flavors you enjoy, try swapping some of the cheddar out and adding other options.
  • Use high-quality ingredients; your dip will taste noticeably better.
  • Serve your dip cold, and don’t let it sit on the counter and get warm before you eat it. It’s much nicer when properly chilled.

FAQs

  1. Can you make this dip in advance?

Yes, you can make the dip in advance, and its flavors will actually meld better if they are left for a day. Whip this dip up the day before you want it, and enjoy its rich taste.
If you’re short on time, try using bacon bits, so you don’t have to cook them. This will work just as well, and they will already be chopped, saving you work.

  2. Can you make the dip healthier?

If you’d like the dip to be a little bit healthier, swap some of the mayonnaise for sour cream and/or Greek yogurt. This will give it a sourer, fresher taste, and will make it less fatty and greasy. You can also reduce the amount of bacon in it if you prefer, although this will affect the flavor.

  3. How long can you keep million dollar dip in the fridge?

This dip should keep in the fridge for up to four days, as long as it is refrigerated promptly. Do not leave it at room temperature for longer than two hours (or one hour if the room is above 90 degrees F), as it will quickly go off. Store it in the fridge except when it is being served.
