Burger King has some of the best chicken nuggets on the block, but why is that?

Well, obviously it has to do with their recipe, but the other very important factor that plays a role is that they use 100% chicken in their nuggets.

Now, this might or might not come as a shock to you, but a lot of chicken nugget manufacturers don’t use all-chicken. It sounds crazy, but that is one of the biggest reason Burger Kings’ chicken nuggets stands out above the rest.

This recipe uses simple ingredients that you most likely already have at home and follows the classic nugget making method, crumbing.

It is easy to make and you can even make some nuggets in advance and freeze them. This will help you save a lot of time with meal prep for snacks or game-night.

The best part; you know exactly what you are eating. Compared to buying chicken nuggets from a box or even buying them from other restaurants, you never truly know what other ingredients they used as “chicken”.

By making your own with this recipe, you can truly be healthier and consume safer chicken. Not to mention it is much more delicious fresh!

We have many of these restaurant copycat recipes on our website that you can recreate in your home.

How To Make Burger King Chicken Nuggets

First, start by preparing your chicken. Your chicken breasts should be deboned, skin removed and diced into 1 ½ inch pieces. Set aside the diced chicken until it is needed.

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, garlic, salt and black pepper. Mix all of the ingredients until they are evenly distributed.

Next, place your chicken pieces in the seasoned flour and toss them around to get a nice and even coating. Set the bowl aside for later use.

Set out two medium bowls in front of you. In the first bowl, whisk together the egg and milk (or water).  In the second bowl, place your breadcrumbs and season it with fine salt and black pepper.

When you are ready to start, remove the chicken pieces from the seasoned flour.

Using the wet-hand-dry-hand method, (see instructions in the tips & tricks section), dip each chicken piece into the egg mixture and then the breadcrumbs. Make sure the pieces are well coated before frying them.

Heat your vegetable oil to around 320 degrees Fahrenheit. Working in batches, fry the chicken pieces for about 2-3 minutes per side. Once the chicken pieces are cooked, drain them on a wire rack or paper towel.

Serve your Burger King Chicken Nuggets warm with your favorite sauce and side.

Directions

  • First, start by preparing your chicken. If it isn’t deboned, do so now – there are many great tutorials on this.
  • Once the chicken breast has been deboned and the skin has been removed, portion your chicken into 1 ½ inch pieces. Set aside the diced chicken until it is needed.
  • In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, garlic flakes, salt and black pepper. Mix all of the ingredients until they are well incorporated and evenly distributed.
  • Next, place your chicken pieces in the seasoned flour. Make sure that all the chicken is covered with the flour to create a nice and even coating. Set the bowl aside for later use.
  • Now comes the fun part; the crumbing. It is important to have your set-up ready before crumbing the chicken.
  • Lay out medium bowls in front of you. In the first bowl, whisk together the egg with the milk or water.
  •  In the second bowl, place your breadcrumbs and season it with fine salt and black pepper.
  • When you are ready to start, remove the chicken pieces from the seasoned flour and place them into another bowl.

Tips & Tricks

  • The breadcrumb is arguably the most important part of a chicken nugget so choosing the correct type is very important. For these Burger King chicken nuggets, choose a very fine breadcrumb to mimic their texture best.

Something like panko breadcrumbs will give you a crispy nugget, but won’t mimic their smooth crust.

  • The wet-hand, dry-hand method is a very common and efficient method used when crumbing food items. If you have ever crumbed food before, you know it can very quickly become a mess.

This method is very simple. You simply use one hand (and only that hand) to coat the chicken in the egg mixture, then using that “wet-hand” so move it over to the breadcrumb bowl.

Then you use your other hand (the dry-hand) to coat the piece in breadcrumbs. You then use your “dry-hand” to move the chicken onto a tray.

This is a very effective way to coat the food and not your fingers.

  • Once you have crumbed your chicken pieces, you can choose to freeze them and fry them later. This will make prep time for dinners or parties much quicker and convenient.

Conclusion

Nothing beats a fresh and crispy nugget! And this is the best chicken nugget recipe you will ever find.

It is made using 100% chicken and what’s even better; it doesn’t require any blending or unnecessary processing steps.

The ingredients and method is very straight forward. Make these nuggets in advance and freeze them – this way if you ever feel like making an easy dinner, or you are short on time for game-night snack prep, simply fry these and serve them with your choice of sauce.
