Panda Express Chow Mein Recipe


For many of us, one of the brightest moments of our childhood was happily munching on noodles from a Panda Express takeout container. Whether it was for a family movie night, a weekday dinner when your mom didn’t have time to cook dinner, or just any time you had a craving for Chinese food, Panda Express was there. Cooking this Panda Express Chow Mein couldn’t be easier. Takes very little time and removes the oil you typically find in these dishes.


  • 2 five ounce packages Yakisoba noodles, cooked according to the directions on the package, drained, and cooled to room temperature (be sure to remove the seasoning packet)

  • 2 ½ tablespoons vegetable or canola oil

  • 1 yellow onion, thinly sliced

  • 1 head 1 head Napa cabbage, thinly sliced into ribbons

  • 3 stalks celery, thinly sliced on a medium bias

  • 2 tablespoons 2 soy sauce (I prefer regular Kikkoman, not low-sodium)

  • 1 ½ tablespoons oyster sauce

  • Optional: add chicken or prawns to add to the taste.


  • 1. Heat the oil over high heat in a wok or large pan with curved sides.
  • Add the veggies and cook for 3-4 minutes while stirring constantly, allowing them to lightly caramelize.
  • Add the noodles and cook for 2 more minutes while stirring constantly.
  • Add the oyster and soy sauces, cook for 1 minute, and stir to coat. Taste for seasoning and serve immediately.


  • The key to making delicious Panda Express Chow Mein is speed. You should be able to cook it within a few minutes. If you take too long to cook Chow Mein, the veggies will get too soft and you won’t have the delightful crunch that’s so indicative of Chow Mein. To ensure it cooks nice and quickly, you need to do a couple of things.
