In the US, the permanent McFlurry flavors are Oreo and M&M's, both on the menu since 1997. Every other flavor, including Butterfinger, Heath, Rolo, Twix, Pralines & Cream, Stroopwafel and Oreo Shamrock, has been discontinued or sold for a limited time. Butterfinger McFlurry: What Happened?
The Butterfinger McFlurry was one of the original flavors when the McFlurry launched in the US in 1997, alongside Oreo, M&M's, Heath and Nestlé Crunch. Its crispy, flaky peanut butter candy pieces made it a fan favorite, and when it disappeared from menus, fans started petitions to bring it back. As of our last check there's no announced return.
The good news? It's easy to make at home. Here's the trick that works: chop a Butterfinger bar small, freeze the pieces for 15 minutes so they stay crunchy, then fold them into softened vanilla ice cream (see the method below). For a ready-made option, the peanut butter flavors that pop up as limited editions are the closest match.
