How To Make Baby Yoda Cookies

The secret to making the Baby Yoda shape is cutting off the angel heads after using a standard angel cookie cutter. Isn’t it brilliant and fun?

The cookie dough is rolled out to a proper thickness and a regular Christmas angel cookie cutter is used to create the first cut outs. Then, the angel cookies are put into a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Now it’s time for the dramatic part – cutting off the angel heads with a butter knife and smoothing the edges to create a mound.

The next important thing in the creation of these unconventional cookies is freezing them for at least 15 minutes. In this way, the dough cookies will maintain their shape in the oven.

They are baked in the oven for about ten minutes, rotating the tray halfway through so that the cookies are evenly baked on all sides.

In the meantime, you can make a buttercream frosting base for an even better flavor. A thin layer of the frosting base is spread on each cookie after they are cooled out of the oven.

The Royal Icing is the next thing to prepare using water, powdered sugar, and meringue powder. A ¼ cup of the icing is used for each color you plan to use. Each partition is placed in a separate plastic sandwich bag where the desired color is added. You’ll need green, brown, a little bit of black and a bit of white.

The next step is outlining all Baby Yoda cookies which will take you up to 10 minutes. The following step is filling them in with the right icing color which can take longer to set.

Finally, it’s time to focus on the finishing touches by dropping two small dots of the black icing for Yoda’s eyes which should spread slightly, and using a toothpick to add a few tiny white specks on each eye.

Here are all the ingredients you need to make these little bundles of joy for all Baby Yoda fans.

Ingredients

  • Sugar cookie dough

  • Buttercream base

  • Green icing

  • Brown icing

  • White icing

  • Black icing

  • Angel cookie cutter

  • Ingredients for the sugar cookie dough
  • 1 large egg

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar

  • ¼ tsp. salt

  • ½ tsp. baking powder

  • ¾ cup unsalted butter (at room temperature)

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 tsp. 2 vanilla extract

  • Ingredients for the buttercream base (optional):
  • ½ tbsp. vanilla extract

  • 2 tbsp. 2 heavy cream (as an alternative use whipping cream)

  • ¼ tsp. salt

  • 4 ½ cups powdered sugar

  • 1 cup 1 unsalted butter (at room temperature)

  • Ingredients for the Royal Icing:
  • 4 cups 4 powdered sugar

  • 3 tbsp. 3 meringue powder

  • 2 tsp. 2 vanilla extract

  • 6 tbsp. 6 water at room temperature

  • More water to achieve flooding consistency (around 5 tbsp.)

Directions

  • To make the cookie dough, cream the sugar and butter until well-blended. Beat in the egg and add baking powder, vanilla, and salt. Add the flour gradually, half a cup at a time to avoid a flour dust storm in your kitchen.
  • After making the dough, sprinkle some flour on your working area and roll out the dough to ¼ inch thickness.
  • Make your first cuts with your standard angel cookie cutter and place the pieces to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Cut off the angel’s heads with a butter knife and smooth out the edges.
  • Freeze the cookies for about 15 minutes to make sure the cookie dough maintains its shape when baked in the oven.
  • Preheat the oven at 350°F. Bake the cookies for around ten minutes.
  • Now it’s time for the buttercream frosting base which will give cookies an additional boost of flavor.
  • Beat the butter using an electric mixer until smooth and add the powdered sugar. Continue to mix until the mixture blends together. Add the heavy cream, salt, and vanilla extract and continue mixing for a minute or two.
  • Allow the cookies to cool down, and then spread a thin layer of the buttercream on each of them.
  • The Royal Icing is the next thing to prepare. Beat the meringue powder, water, and powdered sugar on medium-high speed for three minutes or until stiff peaks begin to form. To get it ready, add the first six tablespoons of water.
  • You need to set aside around ¼ cup of the piping icing for each color you need for outlining the cookies.
  • To make the perfect consistency for the flooding icing, add half a teaspoon of water at a time until you’re able to draw a figure 8 in the frosting using a knife that disappears after 8 seconds. It should take you around 5 tablespoons of water in total.
  • After reaching the right consistency, put each partition of the icing in a plastic sandwich bag and add the desired color.
  • You’ll need not more than one tablespoon of black icing to make Yoda’s eyes, and about a teaspoon of white icing for the tiny specks on his eyes.
  • Outline the cookies with the icing and then fill them in with the right color. Let the icing set and then proceed with the eyes and the white specks.
  • Let them dry and enjoy!
